Respected Dear Sisters, Brothers and Friends,

The year 2009 has come to a close and the year 2010 has arrived. In this New Year we should take stock of our actions and consider whether we have done some good for our country, society and or community. Have we tried to unite our soul with God? Let us contemplate on it! We should work with quiet diligence in order to overcome our short comings.

First and foremost, I am grateful to you all for celebrating my past birthday with such joy and splendor, with singing of songs and Shabads followed with dinner, snacks and cakes, and was most memorable. I gave you a message and it was this…. “If you threw parties and made expenditures, this was to express your joy and happiness for your dearest one. I am delighted to see your happiness, but my heart desires that you try to celebrate a memorable birthday of your dearest one by being able to become a part of someone’s life. Try to arrange blood donation camps and donate blood. If a person waiting and suffering in a hospital for a blood transplant receives the blood you donate in a timely manner, this donation can pull him from the very jaws of death. After his recovery, the blessings you will receive from his family and relatives will be beneficial to you in this life as well. Therefore, celebrate my birthday by arranging blood donation camps.” Donate your body parts as well. Register yourself as a donor to a concerned department so that after your death your body parts could be utilized to help someone in need. After our death our body will be cremated or buried in the ground. Someone may wish burial at sea or to have their remains scattered in the river water. It will not physically affect you anymore! However, the person who receives your donated eye will greatly benefit from restored vision, and will be thankful to you every moment of his life. In like manner, after our death, if our body organs are used to benefit some undeserving soul, that person can change for the better and can lead a healthier and surely happier life. God will give us the benefit for this kindness in this life as well as in the next.

If you have the resources, then help a needy person in arranging the marriage of his daughter to the best of your capabilities. This deed will benefit you in this life as well as the next. All the great Saints in this world have described giving away a daughter’s hand in marriage as one of the greatest gifts. But I understand that these days arranging this gift has become increasingly more expensive, which is why more and more people are choosing to abort the female fetus. Killing a fetus is one of the greatest sins. I earnestly requested against this in the spiritual discourse (Satsang) at this very same event last year. Our government and our political leaders strongly condemn this practice and continue to speak against this practice but alas sufficient and right action remains lacking. I believe that if a case of deliberate abortion of a female fetus is proven to be factual then the law should be strong enough to deal with such a case effectively; i.e. in such a way, that it will be an effective deterrent for anyone considering such an actionl.

The Saints and wise individuals have tried their best to abolish the differences and discriminatory practices based upon wealth and caste. Many people have neither heeded this advice nor changed this practice. However, when the law was strongly enforced against the above practices it has been very effective in reducing such actions. In like manner a strong law and enforcement is needed in order to prevent this practice of killing the female fetus.

The human being is the highest of all creation (ashraf-ul-makhluqat) of God but we do not put that role into practice. We should receive the knowledge about the creator, the Supreme Soul. We should perform repetition (Simran) and meditation and try to unite with Him. The one capability unique to and available only to a human being is the ability to gain the knowledge of and unite with the Supreme Soul, the God. We should try to understand the method of dying while living described by Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and we should contemplate about where we are going after our death. Only then we can claim our right to be called human beings. Otherwise wherein lies the difference between man and animals. The lower species, i.e. animals, birds etc., live their life to the full. They produce offspring as well as nourish and nurture them to either walk or fly on their own; but they are not capable of attaining the necessary knowledge and uniting with God. If we do not make use of this unique capability gifted to human beings by God and practice it, our life time will go to waste. That is why we should seek the company of Saints and enlightened souls; receive initiation (Naam) and try to unite with God through repetition and meditation thus making our human life successful.
